PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disenable manual rotation of a stapler except at a position for replacing a staple cartridge. SOLUTION: A sheet treating apparatus comprises the stapler 25 fixed to a bracket 55 which is rockably supported to a stud 63 fixed to a slider 56. The slider 56 is supported to a guide rod 58 fixed to a stapler bearer 57 and fixed to a timing belt 45 and horizontally moved by the rotation of a drive motor 60. The apparatus further comprises a stopper 64 fixed to be detachable to the bracket 55. The apparatus also comprises a stay 65 fixed between side plates so as to bump against the upper part of the stopper 64 and so constituted that the stapler 25 cannot rotate until the stapler 25 is moved to a staple cartridge replacing position.
