PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a consecutive operation of a fiber channel switch apparatus even if a switch circuit etc. fail. SOLUTION: The fiber channel switch apparatus 1 switches the mutual connection among four port control units 3 by a switching circuit 2. When the switching circuit 2 or any one of the port control units 3 fails, a switching control unit 34 changes the output of the control unit 3 to LIP primitive. The LIP primitive is transmitted to the node of a server apparatus etc. connected corresponding to this control unit 3, initializes the node, and is returned to this port control unit 3. If the input from the fiber channel of the control unit 3 of the former stage becomes LIP primitive, each of the control units 3 causes a selector 38 to select the input of the fiber channel from the control unit 3 of the former stage, and switches the output to the fiber channel interface to the input of the port of the former stage.
