PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sweep light frequency generating device capable of obtaining a light pulse string without being restricted by the wavelength of an incident light. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an optical switch 2 converting a continuous light into a light pulse signal and a light circulation circuit 3 having a light frequency shifter 40 with a loss wavelength characteristic variable mechanism, which is a light circulation circuit in which the light pulse signal circulates and which shifts the light frequency of the light pulse signal and also varies a loss wavelength characteristic in accordance with the light frequency and an optical brancher 33 which emits a part of the light pulse signal circulating the circuit 3 as a light pulse string and the frequency of the light pulse signal is to be shifted every time it circulates the circuit 3 by a light frequency shifting means and the light pulse string is light pulses whose frequency is to be changed stepwise for every prescribed period.
