PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and strong moving handrail driving device for passenger conveyor simplified in maintenance. SOLUTION: In this moving handrail driving device for passenger conveyor, a looseness preventing mechanism for absorbing looseness of a handrail driving chain, which drives a moving handrail by transmitting driving force from a driving force transmitting sprocket to a handrail driving roller, comprises an idle sprocket to be pushed to the handrail driving chain by a spring. All of the spring, the idle sprocket and a link mechanism as structural parts of the looseness preventing mechanism are directly or indirectly supported on a single fitting bracket by a main frame of the passenger conveyor.
