<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which need not associate the type of a roll body with the diameter thereof in advance but can obtain the diameter of an optional attached roll body, and a method for obtaining the diameter of the roll body in the printer. <P>SOLUTION: The printer 1 to which the roll body 3 around which a belt-like recording medium 2 is wound is attached and which performs recording to the recording medium 2 fed from the roll body 3 includes: a roll body rotational amount detection means 17 detecting the rotational amount of the roll body 3; a conveying amount detection means 18 detecting the conveying amount of the recording medium 2 conveyed as the roll body 3 rotates; and an arithmetic means 25 obtaining the diameter of the roll body 3 on the basis of the rotational amount and the conveying amount. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
