PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of achieving high-accuracy AF without impairing focal appearances of a subject, both when it remains stationary and when it is moving.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes: a detection part for detecting a subject; a focus adjustment part for adjusting a position of a focus lens of an imaging optical system so as to focus the imaging optical system on the subject; and a setting part for setting focal point detection areas that are areas in which the focus adjustment part detects a focal point in an imaging screen. The setting part sets the focal point detection areas differently depending on when the imaging optical system is focused on a moving subject and when the imaging optical system is focused on a stationary subject.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
