[Also in Divisions E1 and F4] An inflatable floating barrier (see Division E1) for oil spilt on water has a series of perforations 27 at the water level through which the surface layer of the water (i.e. the spilt oil) is drawn into a chamber 29 from which the contents are removed by pumping at the outlet. A flexible flap 28 (e.g. of polythene) having a density between those of oil (e. g. crude oil) and water (e. g. sea water) may be attached just below the perforations to assist in separating the oil from the water.
