In a mfd. object esp. an elect rode, for use with an electrolyte, at least (part of) the surface of the object is at an oxidation potential at a given moment. At least that part of the object which is to contact the electrolyte comprises a matrix of a metal which can be made anodically passive in the electrolyte at the anodising potential. Paths lead to the surface of the object and contain an electrically conducting oxide which is practically insoluble in the electrolyte. The oxide is situated at least near the surface and enclosed by the boundaries of the paths, while practically blocked penetration of the electrolyte towards the interior of the matrix, and offering an electronically conducting track between the electrolyte and the inside of the matrix at the oxidation potential. The corrosion of the electrode in the electrolyte is inhibited. These electrodes, esp. anodes, can be used in their basic shapes giving improved results for an electrolyte recovery process and are of low cost. In batteries, the weight is reduced compared with Pb are ti as Grid material. This gives improved energy density for the battery, with improved chance of using the battery for electric vehicle esp. golf course cars. |
