NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic AB-113 produced by a microorganism belonging to the genus Actinoplanes. Appearance: Yellow. Melting point: About 218 deg.C. Elementary analysis (experimental value %): C, 53.91; H, 7.02; N, undetected. Specific rotatory power: [alpha]D<24>+2.3 deg. (c=0.1, ethyl alcohol). Ultraviolet absorption spectrum in the visible region: Shown in Fig. 1. Infrared absorption spectrum: Show in Fig. 2. Solubility: Readily soluble in methanol and acetone, soluble in pyridine, etc., slightly soluble in n-butanol, etc. and insoluble in ethyl ether, etc. Color reactions: Negative to the biuret reaction, and positive to the Molisch reaction, etc. USE:An antimicrobial agent capable of powerfully inhibiting the growth of Gram- positive bacteria, e.g. Staphylococcus aureus, and various microorganisms resistant to antibiotics. PROCESS:A strain of Actinoplanes SP201-2 (FERM-P No. 5635) is cultivated aerobically in an artificial or natural culture medium, and the resultant culture is then extracted with an organic solvent and purified by the silica gel column chromatography, etc. to give the aimed antibiotic. |
