PURPOSE:To discriminate the grade of a sheaf of lavers without untying its bundling belt and to improve the efficiency of the discrimination by irradiating the surface of the laver by a light source and photodetecting reflected light from the laver by an image pickup device. CONSTITUTION:A column 2 is supported on a base 1 and the image pickup device 3 and light source 4 are fitted to the column 2. The device 3 is equipped with a hood 5 which cuts off external light, a lens part 6 for converging the light projected on the surface of the laver, etc. Then the surface of the laver is irradiated by the light source 4, the device 3 photodetects the reflected light from the laver, and the reflected light from the laver surface which is detected is analyzed by the quantities of light corresponding to color belts to discriminate which of preset grades the laver is in. Thus, the quantities of reflected light is used to discriminate the grade without untying the laver, thereby making the discriminating operation efficient. |
