In an automated endless track fabrication and cutting system whereby prefabricated, sectioned lengths of insulation material are formed into continuously grooved insulation sheets for insulating pipes and ducts. V-grooves are formed in the sheet material 12 by a pair of offset inclined circular saw assemblies 450 mounted on a carriage movable transversely beneath a track on which the sheet material travels. Before grooving, the sheet material (e.g. mineral wool) is planed to a desired thickness by a band saw or a reciprocating saw, and a flexible backing is attached by adhesive to one face of the sheet material.
