The electronically controlled thermostat has a processor (20) for controlling the operation of heating, venting or air conditioning equipment. The processor works in response to control information provided to the thermostat. A nonvolatile memory (32) is connected to the processor, and stores the control information for recall when the processor loses its main source of power. A real time clock (38) is connected to the processor to provide it with accurate real time information. An emergency power source, comprising a super-capacitor (48), is connected only to the clock and maintains its integrity during loss of power to the processor, the memory and the heating, venting or air conditioning equipment. A limited emergency power source may be attached to a common power bus (44) connected to the processor, the memory, and the clock for supplying power for a short period of time.
|
