<p>An adjustable clamping/shaping device (10) is provided for clamping/shaping work pieces of various dimensions and may be applied for straightening beams, joist, bearers, etc., squaring house frames, positioning form work, or maintaining work pieces in position. The device includes a first clamping member (14), a second clamping member (16) and an elongate threaded member (12) on which the first and second members (14, 16) are located and arranged for continuous adjustment of relative positions therealong. The second member (16) is fixedly or adjustably located on the elongate member (12). The first member (14) has cooperating thread engagement means (40) movable between a released potion at which the first member (14) is slidingly positionable along the elongate member (12) and an engaged position at which the second member (16) cannot slide along the elongate member (12) but is positionable by rotating the engagement means (40) in meshing engagement with the elongate member (12). The device also includes biasing means for biaising the engagement means to said engaged position and maintaining means for maintaining the engagement means at said engaged position. The maintaining means can be in the form of a lock nut member or a cam member. A lever member can be provided for moving the engagement means.</p> |
