<p>The present invention relates to a kindling device for lighting a quantity of combustible materials, such as wood, charcoal or coal, on a hearth, such as a fireplace or a barbecue, which kindling device comprises a container for accommodating fuel, in particular liquid fuel, such as methylated spirit, which container is covered by a gauze or grating, said gauze or said grating forming the top of the kindling device during use.
