A signal amplification circuit and an optical receiver are provided to reduce identification errors for a signal of small amplitude embedded on a tail right after a burst signal of large amplitude. A signal amplification circuit includes a first level holding circuit(11), a second level holding circuit(12), a first adder(13), a second adder(14), a first amplifier(15), and a second amplifier(16). The first level holding circuit(11) inputs a normal input signal(VINP). The second level holding circuit(12) inputs an inverse phase input signal(VINN). The first adder(13) adds the normal input signal(VINP) and an output signal(PD1N) of the second level holding circuit(12). The second adder(14) adds the inverse phase input signal(VINN) and an output signal(PD1P) of the first level holding circuit(11). The first amplifier(15) amplifies an output signal(ADD1P) of the first adder(13). The second amplifier(16) amplifies an output signal(ADD1N) of the second adder(14).
