PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure an accurate straightness in the head of a coating head. SOLUTION: The measuring method of the straightness of a coating head for forming a magnetic layer on a continuously traveling non-magnetic support is composed of a registering process for forming the same surface as the edge face of the coating head to a surface member by grinding the edge face of the coating head and one arbitrary surface of the surface member at the same time, a lapping process for forming the surface becoming parallel to the edge surface to the leading end surface of a measuring element by grinding the same surface as the edge face of the surface member and the leading end surface of the measuring element for measuring the straightness of the edge face and an edge face measuring process for measuring the straightness of the edge face by bringing the leading end surface of the measuring element formed in the lapping process into contact with the edge face.
