A color display, an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display), and a semi-transmissive LCD are provided to reduce loss caused by a color filter by adding a white pixel without increasing the number of lines, and reduce deterioration of a resolution. Each color is made substantially equal in the total area. An area and the number of sub pixels are different according to each color. Areas of red(R) and blue(B) sub pixels(121R,121B) having relatively low luminosity are set to be about two times greater than areas of green(G) and white(W) sub pixels(121G,121W) having relatively high luminosity. The numbers of the green and white sub pixels are twice the number of red and blue sub pixels. A larger sub pixel is configured with plural unit sub pixels. A smaller sub pixel is formed with one unit sub pixel. A pixel is arranged to at least include a scan line(101), a first signal line(102B), a second signal line(102G), a third signal line(102W), TFTs(103R, 103G, 103B, 103W), common electrode(104), an amorphous silicon layer, and signal electrodes(106,113), which are formed on a first substrate, and also include a black matrix(110), a red color filter(111R), a green color filter(111G), a blue color filter(111B) and a white color filter(111W), which are formed on a second substrate, and further include an LC layer filled in a gap provided between the first and second substrates. |
