A device for sharpening cutting tools, in particular knives, with a sharpeni ng arrangement (4) having at least one pair of sharpening elements, the pair of sharpening elements being made of two pivoted sharpening elements mounted one behind th e other overlapping in the sharpening direction, in each case a holding arrangement, which has a recess corresponding with the respective sharpening element, int o which recess the sharpening element is inserted interlocking leaving a clearance which permits the sharpening element to turn without play, being provided for pivoting each sharpening element.
