MOULDING SAND PREPARATION METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ITS IMPLEMENTATION

The invention relates to foundry, in particular, to a technology for preparing moulding sands or making casting moulds and for control of their properties, particularly, moisture content, in the process of preparation. The invention ensures stability of the sampling and sample compacting process and provides more accurate control of moisture content, which improves efficiency of the entire castings production process. The moulding sand preparation process includes adding of batched amount of components to a mixer, adding a specified amount of water, mixing of the components, sampling, then preparing a test specimen directly in the mixer by compacting the sample, and measuring moisture content of the moulding sand followed by adjustment of moisture content of the batch, wherein sampling is performed by repeated pushing of moulding sand into a sleeve by means of an intermittently operating rotatable damper until the sleeve is filled with the moulding sand, after which the moulding sand in the sleeve is compacted by a plunger. In the device for putting the process into practice, the sand moisture content control unit comprises a sleeve for shaping a test specimen fixed slantwise on a wall of an immobile cup; on one end of the sleeve, a plunger with a built-in moisture content sensor and a pneumatic cylinder are mounted, while the other end is open, is positioned inside the mixer and provided with an additional pneumatic cylinder and an intermittently operating rotatable damper designed for filling the sleeve with moulding sand.
