A rocker-operated switch comprises a hollow rocker 5 provided with a central window 24 through which are visible alternately indicia or inscriptions A and B on a pivoted member 4 having two stable switch-operating positions, the member 4 operating a snap-action switch (not shown) via rods 7A, 7B. A lamp (not shown) may illuminate the indicia A, B. Member 4 may be constructed to have more than two stable positions and corresponding indicia. A spring-pressed ball 15 co-operates with a spur 14<SP>1</SP> on pivoted member 4 to define the two stable positions. Rocker 5 has sloping sides 20A, 20B, which engage surfaces 21A, 21B, on member 4 to move it between its positions, bosses 4A and 4B of member 4 in turn operating the rods 7A, 7B. Rocker 5 has a circular portion 18, bearing on supports 19 of the main body 1, the spindle 6 about which the rocker pivots being placed slightly lower than the centre O of portion 18 and passing through oppositely curved slots 22, 23, in member 4 and rocker 5.
