PYROMETALLURGICAL PROCESS FOR TREATING MINERAL MATERIAL

A process of pyrometallurgically treating a feed material which includes: producing a liquid body of feed material; creating a first reaction zone and a second reaction zone which is in contact with the first reaction zone and is in the liquid body; introducing feed material in particulate form and an oxidising gas into the first reaction zone; allowing in-flight oxidation of feed material to take place in the first reaction zone; allowing at least some of the reaction products of the in-flight oxidation to pass into a second reaction zone; and allowing sulphidation or reduction of the reactant products to take place in the second reaction zone.
