The wedge drive is for deflecting a vertical press force into an angled force. The vertical press force acts on a drive wedge which acts with the push wedge of a deforming punch at an angle to the drive wedge. A leading curve (3) is arranged in the extension of the wedge face (1a) of the drive wedge (1). In its region (2b) which acts with the drive wedge (1) during its first contact, the push wedge (2) is mounded. The region (2b) of the push wedge (2) which acts with the leading curve (3) is pref. in the form of a roller. The radius of the push wedge region which acts with the leading face or the radius of the corresp. roller is so chosen that the wedge face is at a tangent to the radius.
