TRANSFER PRINTING OF CELLULOSE FIBERS AND OF UNION FABRICS CONTAINING CELLULOSE FIBERS

Transfer printing of cellulosic fibres and mixed fabrics contg. cellulosic fibres e.g. cotton/polyester fabrics, comprises impregnating the fabric with a cross-linking agent an then transfer printing from an auxiliary support onto the fabric in the presence of a catalyst. The cross-linking agent is a cpd. of formula (I) where the gps. R are the same or different alkyl of 1-4C or alkoxyethyl in which the alkyl gp. contains 1-4C). (I) have high resistance to hydrolysis in acid medium, thus obviating the formation of amines or HCHO having disagreeable odours. The reaction with the cellulose is easily controlled such that the transfer of the dyestuff precedes the fixation. The drying temp. of the impregnated fabric may vary over a wide range. The handle of the fabric is almost unaffected and the brightness and intensity of the printed colours are excellent.
