The silencer is made in a conventional manner from a casing which is subsequently welded to an end plate contg. a pipe which will be joined to the exhaust pipe. Another end plate is used to close the silencer after it has been filled with sound absorbing material. Before assembly of the individual components employed to make the silencer, they are cleaned and descaled and then partly or completely immersed in an enamel slurry, followed by baking to obtain a vitreous enamel coating internally and/or locally, and externally if required. The exhaust pipe can be filled with the slurry and then drained before baking to obtain an internal coating. During enamell ling, zones which are employed for subsequent welding are kept free from enamel, e.g. by masking.
|
