Chipboards for hardboards are reinforced to extend their use in load carrying structures in the building industry by incorporating randomly disposed natural or synthetic fibres or woven or matted fibre webs into the chipboards structure during their mfr. Alternatively, reinforcing members of the pre-fabricated type can be associated with the mfd. chipboards. Reinforcements of the oriented or random type increase the inherently low tensile strength of the chipboards.
