<p>A transmission line includes dielectric material having a relative permittivity which is dependent on the strength of an applied electric field across it. As the electric field increases, the relative permittivity of the material decreases and thus the speed of propagation of a signal transmitted along the line is increased. The transmission line may be in the form of a dielectric shock line 11 to which pulses from a generator 9 are applied. As a pulse travels along the line 11, its rise time is reduced because higher amplitude parts of the pulse travel faster along the line than the low amplitude parts. In another embodiment of the invention, the dielectric material is included in capacitors forming part of a lumped element ladder network.</p> |
