The installation for applying paint in a thick layer according to the invention comprises: an endless tape (2); a unit (4) for depositing paint, enabling at least one layer of paint to be deposited on one face of the tape; a transfer unit (6) for transferring the layer of paint from the tape (2) onto an article (8); a means (10) for driving, at a constant speed, the tape in its part which passes through the said deposition unit (4); a means (24) for driving, intermittently, the tape in its part which passes through the said transfer unit (6); and a means (28, 30, 32) for compensating for the length of the tape located in the region of the two sides of the tape (2) which are situated, on either side, between the constant-speed drive means (10) and the intermittent drive means (24). <IMAGE>
