The ball bearing unit (1) consists of an outer ring (4) and an inner ring (6) both providing rolling paths (5,7) for a series of balls (8) placed between them. A tolerance ring (9) is provided to ensure the liaison between the inner ring (6) and the shaft (3) of the steering column. A blocking washer (11) is provided to block the bearing on the shaft and the outer ring (4) contains a series of inner circumferential projections (13a), on its free end away from the rolling path (5), for the reception of a spring clip (14), which forms an axial stop for the blocking washer. A wavy washer (12) is provided to take up any axial play between the inner and outer rings of the bearing. |
