The invention concerns a manual device for collecting litter on a surface such as the ground and temporarily storing it, comprising two flanks (2, 3) whereof one at least is provided with a scraping flange (29, 30), the flanks being linked in articulation along one edge (6) parallel to the scraping flange, and capable of being brought together, in a squeezing movement, such that after the ground has been scraped by said flange, the litter is maintained between the closed flanks (2, 3) forming a substantially closed container or box, said device further comprising locking means (21) for being maintained or grasped. The invention is characterised in that the locking means (21) consist of a tab mounted such that it is offset at an angle relative to the plane of each flank and is capable of either co-operating with removable interlocking means on a gripping member, or for being borne of the user's fingers by the two edges.
