PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the data communication equipment of considerably high reliability, which prevents erroneous transmission to the utmost, and to provide the preventing method of erroneous transmission. SOLUTION: A communication part 18 transmitting data, a main control part 11 instructing the transmission of the communication part 18, an input part 12 inputting a FAX number, RAM storing the name of a communication destination and an identification code corresponding to, the inputted FAX number, and the FAX number and a display part 13 reading and displaying the name of the communication destination from RAM in response to the input of the FAX number are installed. Since the main control part 11 inhibits the transmission of data until the name of the communication destination is displayed, it can prevent erroneous transmission by depressing a transmission stop key when a transmitter confirms the name of an opposite destination based on the display of the display part 13 and it is the error even if the transmitter inputs the erroneous FAX number as the address of the communication destination.
