PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a retrieval performance by eliminating the need for a process for tracing between entries at the time of retrieval by holding informa tion regarding more than one alias. SOLUTION: An actual entry 1 representing a user holds as properties a general name (cn), a mail address (mail), and an alias name (alias Name) 3 in addition to identification names DN: cn=Sato, cu=Osaka, o=ABC, C=JP. As the alias name 3, cn=Sato, ou=Tokyo, o=ABC, c=JP which are aliases of an actual entry 1 are registered. A directory server having received a retrieval request to retrieve the identification names DN: cn=Sato, ou=Osaka, o=ABC, c=JP or cn=Sato, ou=Tokyo, o=ABC, c=JP regards the request as a request as to the actual entry 1. This directory information holds an alias in the actual entry 1 and does not generate an alias entry having an entity. Namely, a virtual alias entry 2 is obtained as shown by the broken line.
