PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the frame rate of a CCD solid-state imaging apparatus without increasing a transfer frequency and by keeping the center of an image region and the center of an imaging region identical. SOLUTION: In the solid-state imaging apparatus in which the number of horizontal pixels is 3M+3N, V1 gates 5 which perform a signal-charge readout operation to a vertical transfer CCD 2 from photodiodes 1 are arranged in the vertical direction in a central imaging region (number of horizontal pixels: M) 9 and in an optical black region (number of horizontal pixels: N) 11, and V1' gates 6 to which readout pulses are not applied in a high-speed imaging mode are arranged in the vertical direction in side-part imaging regions 10. Barrier gates 7 which prevent a charge transfer to horizontal transfer CCDs 3 from the CCDs 2 are arranged in the regions 10. In the high-speed imaging mode, a positive voltage is always applied to the V1' gates 6, unwanted charges in the regions 10 are discharged to a discharge drain 8 in every line, and only required signal charges in the regions 9, 11 are transferred to the CCDs 3.
