PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating agent which is a tasteless, odorless and nontoxic plasticizer excellent in compatibility with shellac, nonvolatile property and oxidation resistance, capable of forming smooth coat having good adhesive ratio and useful for foods, etc., by using a middle-chain fatty acid triglyceride as a plasticizer. SOLUTION: This coating agent comprises (A) a shellac such as purified shellac or while shellac, (B) a middle chain fatty acid triglyceride such as a compound of the formula R1 COOCH2 CH(OCOR2 )CH2 OCOR3 (R1 to R3 are each a 6-12C alkyl) and as necessary, further, (C) a solvent such as lower alcohol and the coating agent contains the component A and the component B in an amount of the component B of 0.5-10 pts.wt. based on 10 pts.wt. component A in the case not containing the component C and contains these components A to C to that the concentrations of the components A and B become 1-40wt.% and 1-20wt.%, respectively, in the case containing the component C which is a lower alcohol. |
