<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an x-ray detector for a portable imaging device, which is designed so as to reduce weight while providing greater mechanical stiffness and improved energy absorption capability. <P>SOLUTION: In one embodiment, the portable imaging device 60 is provided with an enclosure 62, an imaging panel 72 disposed in the enclosure 62, and a shock absorbent material 78 holding the imaging panel 72 within the enclosure 62 without a rigid connection between the imaging panel 72 and the enclosure 62.
