<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a P450scc (side chain cleavage cytochrome P450) enzyme highly active for the P450scc enzyme which is an important enzyme for catalyzing a first stage of biosynthesis of an industrially useful steroid hormone. <P>SOLUTION: A sterol side chain-cleaving enzyme has following physico-chemical properties: (1) actions: cleaving the carbon-carbon bond at the twentieth position and the 22nd position of a sterol side chain moiety and forming a compound represented by formula (II) by activity of acting on a sterol represented by formula (1) and cleaving the bond and (2) substrate specificity: ≥10% rate of conversion reaction from 4-cholesten-3-one into progesterone and ≥10% rate of conversion from cholesterol into pregnenolone when reacting a microorganism producing the enzyme with an aqueous solution containing 100 μg/mL of the 4-cholesten-3-one or cholesterol at 28°C for 5 h. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
