<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder which can accurately carry out detection of recording defect by correcting offset even when the offset by recording processing on both faces of a recording medium takes place, and to provide a method for detecting recording defect by the recorder. <P>SOLUTION: A first inspection image acquiring part 11 acquires first inspection image data by capturing an image of the back surface after recording processing based on reference image data is carried out to the front surface of the sheet-shaped recording medium and before recording processing based on the reference image data to the back surface of the recording medium is carried out. A second inspection image acquiring part 12 acquires second inspection image data by capturing an image of the back surface after recording processing to both surfaces of the front surface and the back surface is carried out.
