The present invention relates to an optical device including an optical modulation device, and a driving method thereof and, more specifically, to an optical device including an optical modulation device having liquid crystal, and a driving method thereof. The optical device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a display panel which displays an image; a phase delays plate which is positioned on the display panel; and the optical modulation device which is positioned on the phase delays plate. The optical modulation device includes a first plate and a second plate which face to each other, and include a plurality of unit areas; and a liquid crystal layer which is positioned between the first plate and the second plate, and includes a plurality of liquid crystal molecules. The first plate includes a plurality of lower plate electrodes and a first orientation having a first electrode and a second electrode. The second plate includes an upper electrode; and a second orientation. An orientation direction of the first orientation is in parallel with an orientation direction of the second orientation.
