The invention relates to a hard metal-cermet composite material (1) which comprises: a continuous phase (2) of a tungsten carbide-based hard metal having a metallic binder (2b) of Co, Ni, Fe or an alloy thereof and tungsten carbide particles (2a) embedded in the metallic binder (2b); embedded in the continuous phase (2), distributed regions (3) of a titanium carbide-, titanium nitride-, titanium carbonitride-, niobium carbide-, niobium carbonitride- or niobium nitride-based cermet, having a second metallic binder (3b) of Co, Ni, Fe or an alloy thereof, and hard material particles (3a) embedded in the second metallic binder (3b), at least 97% by volume of the embedded regions (3) of the cermet having a longest diameter of <35 μm and at least 20% by volume of the embedded regions (3) of the cermet having a shortest diameter of at least three times the average diameter of the tungsten carbide particles (2a) in the continuous phase (2). |
