A fiber prepared by: obtaining a mixture by mixing first and second precursors each possessing a core and at least one functional group known to have click reactivity, for each of the first and second precursors, the core comprises the same synthetic material and the functional group known to have click reactivity is selected from the group consisting of thiol, azide, alkyne, and alkene, groups, wherein the synthetic material is selected from polyethylene terephthalate, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, and copolymers, block copolymers, homopolymers, blends and combinations thereof; and extruding said mixture in order to crosslink the first and second precursors without use of chemical crosslinking agent or catalyst to produce a fiber.
