PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce mechanical friction of a fuel pump.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 100 includes a fuel injection valve 200 for directly injecting fuel into a cylinder, a high pressure fuel pump 600 for raising a pressure of the fuel and supplying the fuel to the fuel injection valve 200, and a variable mechanism 700 for varying a lift amount of a plunger 620 of the high pressure fuel pump 600. The high pressure fuel pump 600 lifts the plunger 620 against energizing force of a spring 680 with a cam mechanism 660 driven by the internal combustion engine 100, and raises the pressure of the fuel in a fuel tank 300, and supplies the fuel to the fuel injection valve 200. A fuel pump control device 810 minimizes the lift amount of the plunger 620 with the variable mechanism 700 when a pressure of the fuel (actual fuel pressure) Pa detected by a fuel pressure sensor 800 is less than a prescribed value, and thus, mechanical friction can be reduced.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
