Intended particularly for use in dictation, playback apparatus is controlled by means which responds to a break in the recorded signal to interrupt the playback for a length of time which depends upon the length of the immediately preceding playback period. The length of the pause is controlled by means of a capacitor (16, Fig. 1, or 43, Fig. 5) which is charged during playback and discharged during a pause, or by means of a cam (68, Fig. 7) which is driven in one direction during playback and in the opposite direction during a pause. |
