<p>1342131 Temporary pipe joint covering MIDWESCO-ENTERPRISE Inc 26 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 11459/71 Heading F2G A temporary joint for bridging spaced conduit ends includes a flexible elongate impermeable sleeve 30, which is circumferentially. elastic, having collars 36 inflated through tubes 42 to seal around an outer surface 24 of the conduit end. As shown, the conduit may be of the type comprising, an inner pipe 14, sections of which are butt welded 20, insulation 16, spacers 18 and an outer pipe 12 coated for protection with coal tar 24 except at bare end portions 26. The. ends of the pipe 12 are spaced, to permit access to the. joint 20 and if the joint has not been completed at the end of a workday or if the outer pipes 12 have not been connected, the sleeve 30 is temporarily placed over the joint to prevent moisture ingress. The sleeve 30 may be of polyethylene or PVC and the inflatable collars 36 are formed by turning back end portions of the sleeve and joining them to the sleeve by heat sealing or adhesive to form toroidal pockets 40. After inflation from a compressed-air source or a hand pump the tubes 42 may be blocked by knotting them.</p> |
