The band saw has a chain of teeth whose bases are between two sidewalls. Periodically a tooth protrudes (26) beyond the left sidewall (12), and periodically one beyond the right one (11). Teeth set to the right, straight, and to the left can follow each other periodically. The design allows deep saw-cuts to be made in bones.
