PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high density recording by dispersing magnetic metal pow der well in a magnetic layer thereby enhancing the sin ratio. SOLUTION: A nonmagnetic support base is coated with magnetic paint produced by kneading at least a binder and magnetic metal powder to obtain a magnetic layer wherein the magnetic metal powder is surface treated with an organic compound having a carboxyl group to make the surface adsorb a carboxyl group.
