The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 4/5/-substituted imidazole derivatives I <IMAGE> wherein R1 is alkyl, OH substituted alkyl or alkenyl R3 is H, CH3, CH2CH3, OCH3 or Hal R4 is H, CH3, CH2CH3, OCH3 or Hal and Hal is halogen and the non-toxic acid addition salts thereof. The compounds and their salts possess valuable pharmacological properties and are useful especially as selective α2 -receptor antagonists.
