PURPOSE:To display a message to be displayed preferentially easy to be recognized, and to display the whole of a graphic on a screen, by reading out a graphic image from a remaining area except the area corresponding to a preferential area in a frame buffer for a character out of frame buffers for a graphic, and displaying the character and the graphic after synthesizing them on a display screen, in a case of displaying a character image preferentially. CONSTITUTION:The preferential area 20A to store the character image to be displayed preferentially compared with the graphic is provided in the frame buffer 20 for the character at the time of performing the synthesized display of the character and the graphic. And when the preferential display of the graphic is selected, a processor 14 reads out graphic image from all of the areas of the frame buffer 18 for the graphic, and displays only the graphic image on the display screen. Meanwhile, when the preferential display of the character image is selected, the character images are read out from all of the areas of the frame buffer 20 for the character, and also, the graphic image is read out from the remaining area 18B except an area 18A corresponding to the preferential area 20 in the frame buffer for the character out of the frame buffer 18 for the graphic, and the synthesized display of the character and the graphic is performed on the display screen.
