PURPOSE:To improve operability and compositeness, by providing a mode switching key on a keyboard connected to a CPU being incorporated in a display device side, and enabling a various kinds of to be adopted. CONSTITUTION:The mode switching key as a part of function keys is provided on the keyboard 8, and when an input operation is performed by depressing the mode switching key, characters such as (character input), (item input), (word input), (mouse mode), and (handwriting mode) are displayed as a menu picture of an LCD10, and a desired input system can be adopted. In such way, the available range of an input device with a display device can be expanded by enabling not only an input by an item mode, but other input systems such as the character input, the handwriting input, or the mouse input, etc., to be adopted, thereby, the operability and the compositeness can be improved.
