Grinding wheels (10) are arranged to rotate about their axis (M) having their active face (11') frusto-conical or flat and perpendicular to their axis of rotation. A structure is arranged to support the grinding wheels above the slabs (3) to be machined. The slabs are advanced along a support surface (P) through the field of action of the grinding wheels. A device (20) supports an individual grinding wheel and is rotatably coupled to the support structure (41) about an axis of rotation (S) perpendicular to the underlying support surface for the slabs. The grinding wheel is rotatably coupled about its axis to the support. The axis of the grinding wheel forms an acute angle with the axis of the support and the centre (C) of the active face of the grinding wheel is positioned on or relatively close to the axis of the support. Device (25, 31) are provided for rotating the support about its axis together with device (15,32) for rotating the grinding wheel about its axis. |
