PURPOSE: To reflect dynamically a printer characteristic onto a terminal characteristic of communication by acquiring the printer characteristic when an external printer is initialized even when the external printer other than a printer built in the facsimile equipment is connected. CONSTITUTION: A CPU control circuit 2 makes a request of a printer characteristic to external printers 17, 19 connecting to a SCSI or a LAN via a printer characteristic detection section 7 on the arrival of a facsimile call and the printer characteristic is detected from its reply and the characteristic is written on an output capability table. When no reply is received, the communication procedure is delayed till a prescribed time elapses Furthermore, a notice of the printer characteristic is requested to a printer connected externally for each prescribed time, the valid printer characteristic is held periodically and even when the printer is invalid at the arrival of the call, communication data are stored in a hard disk 16 and when an output by the external printer is attained, an output reflected onto the output characteristic of the printer is attained. |
