The disclosed apparatus (200) synchronizing frames in a continuous stream of digital data consisting of a plurality of M-bits long master frames containing data and a constant synchronization word and having an associated bit clock. It also includes a FIFO buffer (201), a synchronization word register (202) containing the constant synchronization word, and a comparator (203) operably connected to the FIFO, a frame bit counter (204), a further counter connected (207) to the first comparator. The apparatus also synchronizes frames in a continuous stream of digital data while minimum delay in processing the audio data in a radio communication system.
